Vitamin D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin. It is also known as the sunshine vitamin, as the human body can manufacture it when exposed to sunlight. Well known for its role in regulating calcium levels*, vitamin D is now attracting attention for its role and benefits to the body. These include the maintenance of normal bones, teeth, muscle function as well as the normal functioning of the body's immune system.
 
In this product the vitamin D3 is presented in a form suitable for vegetarians.
 
Vitamin D contributes to normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus and the maintenance of normal levels of calcium in the blood.
 
Vitamin D can be obtained from two sources - the spontaneous formation in the skin by the sun via a phytochemical reaction in the epidermis, and the eating of a food containing vitamin D. A severe deficiency of vitamin D results in rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults, which are both skeletal diseases that weaken the bones. Good food sources of vitamin D include cold-water fish, butter, egg yolks, fortified milk and cod liver oil.   
 
Studies suggest that cholecalciferol (D3) is the most bioavailable form of vitamin D, which has recently been the subject of renewed interest amongst nutritional scientists.
 
Directions for use:
For adults, one (1) vegetable capsule daily, preferably at mealtime, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.
