Pharma Nord OMEGA 7 Sea Buckthorn Oil - 150 Capsules

Standardised oil manufactured from seeds and soft parts of sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) berries. A product containing palmitoleic, alpha-linolenic, linoleic and oleic acids, as well as natural tocopherols, tocotrienois, carotenoids and plant sterols.

The oil of sea buckthorn berry contains fatty acids of virtually all important series, omega-3, -7 and -9 and is exceptionally rich in palmitoleic acid (omega-7), rarely found in the plant kingdom.

The oil is also rich in natural antioxidants; tocopherols, tocotrienols, carotenoids and plant sterols.

Antioxidants inhibit harmful oxidation of fatty acids in cell membranes. Plant sterols may be of benefit to cholesterol metabolism. Working synergistically, the nutrients in sea buckthorn oil support general well-being and may help maintain the health and integrity of cell membranes, especially in mucous membranes and skin.

Omega 7 is the first choice for the modern woman who wants to enjoy life to the full.

Omega 7 helps maintain natural lubrication of mucous membranes such as those of the:

  • Vaginal tract

What is Omega 7?

Omega-7 is a nutritional supplement prepared from berries of the sea buckthorn plant. The oil extracted from sea buckthorn berries is a rich source of the essential polyunsaturated omega-7 fatty acids (PUFAs), palmitoleic acid and cis-vaccenic acid. Relatively few plant specicies are good sources of these essential PUFAs. In addition to the omega-7 PUFAs, sea buckthorn oil is a good source of the PUFAs alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3 type), linole3ic acid (omega-6 type), and oleic acid (omega-9 type), as well as containing high levels of antioxidants (tocopherols, tocotrienols, carotenoids, plant sterols and vitamin C).

How do Omega-7 fatty acids work?

Mucous membranes line the surface of the digestive system, the respiratory tract, and the urino-genital tracts. The essential PUFAs and antioxidants present in sea buckthorn oil act synergistically in maintaining healthy mucous membranes throughout the body. The omega-7 PUFA palmitoleic acid is of particular importance because it confers fluidity to the membrane, whilst having a low susceptibility to oxidation. Lipid peroxidation by free radicals results in the disintegration of membranes and a resultant loss of function, leading to ulceration of the digestive tract, a disturbed epidermal barrier in the skin (resulting in impaired wound healing and dermatitis), and dryness of the genital tract lining (particularly in menopausal women). Omega-7 PUFAs, together with the other classes of omega PUFAs present in sea buckthorn oil (and their metabolites) play an important role in regulating immune function and the inflammatory response. Thus omega-7 fatty acids promote tissue regeneration and anti-inflammatory action in the skin and mucosa.

Who should take Omega-7?

Women during the menopause who suffer from those symptoms of dryness which may not have affected them before. Vegetarians who do not get a good level of omega-3 fatty acids in their diet nay also benefit. People who suffer from dry respiratory tract may also benefit from taking this product.
