It is now well known that the omega 3 fish oils found in fish, especially oily fish from cold waters, have many health benefits. The active ingredient in fish oils is EPA which has been shown to maintain mental and cardiovascular health. Our diets are generally considered to be deficient in EPA.

To guarantee that their oil is clear of all pollutants including Mecury, PCB's and dioxins, Dr Tolonens oil goes through 3 distinct processes. Firstly it only uses deep sea Wild Fatty fish from the Pacific Ocean. Then it goes through a process known as Molecular Distillation which is used by most Fish Oil suppliers. However, in order to become purified and highly concentrated, the fish oil has to go through another procedure called Vacuum istillation. This ensures all contaminants are removed and that a high percentage of EPA is yeilded.

The E in front of EPA stands for Ethyl which signifies that the fish oil has gone through the vacuum distillation process and that it is purified.

How can you measure the activity of a fish oil supplement?

Of course, not all fish oil supplements are the same. The main active ingredient of an Omega 3 fish oil is the EPA content. A normal fish oil supplement willcontain around 18-20% EPA. Dr Tolonens E-EPA by comparison contains 70% EPA. This means only having to take 1-2 capsules daily to realise its full potential.
