Whats in EICOSANOIL that makes it different
Everyone knows that eating the polyunsaturated fats found in vegetable oil is better for your health than eating the saturated fats found in meat and dairy products.
The polyunsaturated fats and oils are healthy because they contain the essential fatty acids.
The body is made up of billions of cells. The membrane of each of these cells contains essential fatty acids. Cells with a high daily turnover such as those of the skin and immune system require a continuous supply of essential fatty acids to function properly.
Essential fatty acids are found in particularly high concentrations in the cells of the brain and nervous system and developing babies and children need huge amounts of essential fatty acids daily.
Within the body essential fatty acids are converted into chemicals called eicosanoids. Eicosanoids have many important functions throughout the body:
They lower cholesterol and keep the blood vessels healthy.
They balance the menstrual cycle.
They produce anti-inflammatory chemicals which help fight against such things as arthritis, psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease.
They produce anti-allergy chemicals that fight against conditions such as eczema, asthma, hayfever and urticaria.
They reduce the tendency for the onset of autoimmune diseases such as SLE.
They fight the complications of diabetes.
They keep cells intact and reduce their tendency to turn cancerous.
THERE ARE THREE GROUPS OF IMPORTANT ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS
1. Omega-3 fatty acids - including alpha-linolenic acid
2. Omega-6 fatty acids - including linoleic acid and gamma-linolenic acid
3. Omega-9 fatty acids - including oleic acid
Nutritional experts tell us that the average western diet is seriously deficient in Omega-3 fatty acids. This may partly account for increasing levels of eczema and asthma and why heart and circulatory disorders are major killers.
Most oils are unbalanced; they have too much of one essential fatty acid and not enough of another. The body needs balanced sources of all nutrients. Indeed, the most commonly used oils are deficient in Omega-3 fatty acids.
Evening primrose oil is over 70% Omega-6 fatty acids, no Omega-3 fatty acids.
Borage oil (starflower) is over 60% Omega-6 fatty acids, less than 1% Omega-3 fatty acids.
Linseed oil (flax) is up to 60% Omega-3 fatty acids with under 20% Omega-6 fatty acids.
Fish oils are all Omega-3 fatty acids, no Omega-6 fatty acids.
Olive oil is over 70% oleic acid and very little else.
Hemp seed oil contains 60% Omega-6 fatty acids and 20% Omega-3 fatty acids. This 3:1 ratio is thought to be the perfect balance for human metabolism. Hempseed oil also contains 12% of the Omega-9 fatty acid, oleic acid and 3% GLA. It contains in total over 90% unsaturated fatty acids, one of the highest in nature.
